Do I need to treat my cat for fleas, ticks and worms?

At Manchester Cat Clinic, we take a risk-based approach to parasite protection. This means that we tailor our recommendations to your cat's individual needs.

However, as a general rule...

• We suggest that outdoor-access cats are protected against fleas and ticks year round, and wormed every 3 months

  • Prolific hunters can have extra worming on a monthly basis

• We suggest that indoor-only cats are treated for fleas, ticks and worms annually

• Indoor-only cats who come into contact with outdoor-access or stray cats should be treated as though they are outdoor-access cats

Over the counter flea and worm products that can be found in pet shops, supermarkets and online subscriptions are less effective than prescription strength products that vets can prescribe as fleas have developed resistance them.

We are able to offer a new product which is a single spot on applied only every 3 months and treats all fleas, ticks and worms - if you are interested, book an appointment and ask for it to be applied or prescribed.
